May Day 2023 – Details for the Day
After months of planning our annual May Day event is nearly here. Our festivities on Monday 1st May will begin at 12 noon and finishing at 4pm.
Procession through the village – Arrive at School by 11.45am
Children wishing to participate in the procession should arrive at school by 11:45am. The procession will travel through the village, culminating on the village green/park where the May King and Queen will be crowned.
May King & Queen and Attendants – Arrive at School by 11.30am
The May King, May Queen and Attendants should arrive by 11:30am, where they will change into their costumes. Some attendants will have a basket of confetti to throw after the crowning ceremony.
Maypole Dancers – Arrive at School by 11.40am
Please meet in the school hall at 11:40am. You can wear any summery clothes that are easy for you to dance in and sensible footwear as the grass can be slippery. After the procession has finished, you will need to meet Mr Rudge near the Maypole.
Children’s Performances
After the Maypole Dancing we will then bring the children back to the school grounds for their group singing performance at 1pm. Our children have enjoyed learning several songs and we hope you will encourage your child/ren to join in. Food will be available from the school hall from 1-2.30pm and refreshments will be served all day from the tea tent on the school field.
Class 3 – Activities/Stalls please come to the School Hall at 1.30pm
Children’s Activities/Stalls will run from 1.45pm to 2.45pm on the School playground. Mr Rudge & Mrs Ackernley will meet you in school. Please come to the school hall at 1.15pm to start setting up your stalls.
Stall Donations
We can still take any stall donations this week and on the day itself. Please give any items directly to stall holders on the day.
Our refreshment tent would greatly appreciate donations of cakes. Please bring cakes on the day to the refreshment tent on the school field or the school hall.
- Raffle
Raffle tickets may be purchased on the day from the Raffle Stall. Please return any raffle tickets sold or unsold to the School office no later than Friday. We can re-sell these on the day.
- What’s On?
We will be serving pizza and chips from the school hall from 1-2.30pm..
Also, we are serving teas, coffees, cakes, cold drinks and sweets from the refreshment tent on the school field.
There will be activities galore on the school grounds to try your luck – bowling; coconut shy; tombola; toy stall; hook a duck; wrapped bottle stall; football shoot out to name just a few!
We will also have a bouncy castle; slide; popcorn machine; candy floss on school grounds for you to try and on Main Street there will be many local and talented craft stalls
We are also celebrating 50 years since the school opened on this site and a display of photographs and artefacts will be on display in the hall. At approximately 2.30-3pm we will be burying a time capsule in the school grounds.
This is our biggest fund raising event of the year and it wouldn’t be possible without all of the support from parents and staff, so a BIG thank you J
